Western trails are done except deep ravine and stump trail [assuming this means 4th trail between ditches and concession 11]. 10-11 is also done. Parking is clean. – Nick
All the trails are groomed and in really good shape. Moose is good, 10th conc is good and no rocks are showing. Last part of 10-11 is a little rough but should be ok for your race. The blocks off gun club south are removed. – Nick
Nick groomed: Moose Trail (decent shape); 10-11 Trail (rough near the snowmobile trail intersection); 11th Concession (good), End loop (very good); Malamute (good); Gun Club (one pass in the middle – passable). He will move the blocks to access Gun Club and groom that entrance only until there is enough…
We have very minimal snow, so the eastern trails may not be usable. Also, with the icy conditions lots of people have not had enough training for 8 miles. I propose to offer a 5 mile course with 4 or 6 dogs on the western trails (unless we get a lot…
The western trails were pretty nice this morning. 1-3 cm of sticky snow on top of solid ice, but stuck to it, so pretty good. A few corners were more like rough ice (back of End Loop in particular), but still pretty safe. Enjoy!
Note form Steve (forestry): I groomed the western trails today (not 10-11 or Moose). Conditions are pretty good but the snow didn’t stick to the ice underneath so it is still pretty slick in places. Maybe it will improve over night. I don’t think I will have time to groom…
Trails were pretty much the same as yesterday, a bit better with another centimetre of fresh snow. My only update would be the north corner of End Loop is smooth ice which even the dogs slip on, so take particular care there. Dogs loved the cool temperature and easy sliding.
Trails today were very hard ice with a light snow covering glued to the surface. Footing is hard and fast, but the dogs had a decent grip. Most corners are fast, but ok for experienced sledders. Several corners are very icy: 4th to Ditches, north back corner of JGL, north…
Today’s trails hard and fast, still textured enough to be good footing for the dogs. There was a truck on various trails, but mostly no significant damage done. JGL south entrance has a bit rougher truck tracks; though passable for sleds, not good for skis. Those that went early had…
