Larose – Feb 24

Trails at Larose were in good shape this morning. Still mostly snow covered. Surface was crusty, sled runners and paws breaking through about 1/2 cm or so, good bite for cornering. Consider booties for tender paw dogs when running earlier in the morning at this time of year. 10/11 is starting to blow out, but passable; Concession 10 has been driven on, and is a rutted gravel mess. Swamp had some ice, but not too slick; entrance from Gun Club is blown out, but ok if you don’t mind running on pine needles. North Gun Club and Tower Loop were flawless, best trails out there today. South Gun Club has had some walkers, but very shallow prints and not much of a concern. Rollercoaster, Gun Club extension and to some extent south Gun Club are bumpy (moguls).

Skijorers: Park at the end of Drouin Rd and walk into the back of the north side of Gun Club for a good run. Western trails had a couple of skidoos romp through JGL, Ditches, Malamute, but passable for sledding. There are a lot of latent skijor tracks in the near trails too, which would make skiing iffy there. End Loop may be the skijorers’ best bet in the Western trails. I didn’t see Moose trail, but I expect that would be another good choice for an out and back trip.
