Trail-Bingo-4-Rescue & BBQ!
*** UPDATE *** The trail report after yesterday afternoon’s grooming isn’t ideal. We will still hold today’s event, but please be aware that the trails have some issues. We will clean up what we can this morning, but I am not sure how much we will be able to get done in the time we have. Here is what Nick said, but I am not sure how much of that he cleaned up as he went: “Small tree down on stump trail. Tree down between 3rd and the ditches. West and north side of JGL has lots of bent over trees. Steep ravine is not done. A few bent over trees on north side of end loop and also on Malamute. Parking bypass is good. I suspect that Eastern trails are full of trees to be cleaned up. – Nick”
Come have fun and celebrate one of our last official events of the 2019/2020 mushing season! Trail-Bingo & BBQ will also have the Winter Weight Pull! The events will take place on Saturday, February 29th, 2020. Trail-Bing is a fun participation event where all teams are welcome (big or small, sled or skis). You will run the trails looking for specific items, or doing certain tasks which you fill in on your bingo card. Have you always wondered what the weight pull is all about? Come test your dog’s strength and willingness to pull in a great fun and safe environment!
A BBQ lunch included after the events!
Event registration starts at 9.30 am, and then you are free to hit the trails with your bingo cards. All cards must be returned by 11:30am. The weight pull event will be happening during the same time period. Lunch is included in your $15 event fee ($30 for families of two or more) and will consist of sausage on a bun with chips and a drink. After expenses, half the event fees will go to ‘Therapeutic Paws of Canada (tpoc.ca) and half to the club.
Note: Trails are open to all members during this event even if you are not participating.
How does the Trail-Bingo-4-Rescue event work?
After you have registered you are free to get started and hit the trails! You will be given a sheet with a list of items to spot while on the trail and/or tasks to preform. Note: Nothing seen in the parking lot counts – you must be on the trail!
You are welcome to spend as much time on the trails as you would like hunting these items. Feel free to take breaks and head back out. Please ensure your sheets are returned to the event coordinators no later than 11:30. Based on the top 5 completed cards we will draw for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and award badges. A random prize draw for all participants and volunteers will also take place following the awards – while prizes last!
Note to Skijorers: if you feel that there may be difficulty in passing the larger dog teams and would prefer a head start on the trails to prevent passing issues, please let us know and we will adjust the start-time to 9am for just the skijorers, with the sled teams starting no earlier than 9.30am – but please let us know ahead of time.
If not already completed for this season please send your proof of vaccinations to Cindy Merkley ahead of the event. Season memberships, weekend memberships, or associate memberships can be purchased here: https://mushlarose.ca/membership/
As always, this is a fun event, please be courteous and polite while on the trails, making sure to yell ‘trail’ if you come upon a stopped team and offer assistance should anyone need it. Please allow teams to hook in and hold their dogs to the side of the trail if needed. Should any situations arise while on the trail, please let the organizers know immediately.
Most importantly – BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN!
