February Frolic Fun Race

February 4

$15

Sunday, 4 February 2024
Larose Forest P1 parking lot, 9:00 am

***UPDATE – Given the potentially hard and fast conditions for this weekend’s race, we will be adjusting the course to leave out Deep Ravine. This means there will be a short section of head-on passing before and after End Loop in the long course. Since we realize some of you may have been waiting to register because of possible adverse trail conditions. We will extend registration to Wednesday at midnight; also we will allow any registered participant who feels the course may be beyond their ability to back out on the day with a full refund. I still believe it will be possible to offer safe and fun trails for this event, especially if we get even the little bit of snow currently in the forecast, but we’ll make the final call on Saturday around noon.***
This event is instead of the Larose 8, which is traditionally a single-distance longer race. With the Race4Rescue rescheduled, we wanted to hold a more inclusive event to be sure everyone gets a chance to play.

RACE CLASSES

Classes may be cancelled or combined if there are fewer than 3 teams entered.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

Timers, team fetchers, trail set-up and take down, parking greeter and bib collector. Races can’t happen without volunteers, so please volunteer to help when you are not racing, or bring someone with you who can. Please email Volunteers@MushLarose.ca to let us know what position you’d prefer by Monday January 29. As much as volunteering on the day is appreciated, we really need to plan in advance to be able to guarantee a quality event that we can all enjoy.

REGISTRATION

Registration has now closed. Cost is $15 per musher for the day. Must be a Mush Larose member to enter a team [Full membership or Weekend membership]. The schedule will depend on how many teams register for each class, and will be emailed to the participants on the Friday evening before the race along with the virtual race meeting. Events will be held in the above order starting at 9 am. Should you have any questions or difficulties with the registration process please contact events@mushlarose.ca for assistance.

RACE INFORMATION

Prizes are bragging rights only. Results will be published on MushLarose.ca/event-results and posted on the Mush Larose Facebook page.

There will be a BBQ on site: hamburger/sausage with chips and pop for $7. Funds raised support the club. Email President@MushLarose.ca by Saturday at noon to reserve your meal for Sunday.

There is no water on site. Please bring your own.

This race is dedicated to recreational mushers and dog-powered sports enthusiasts and is open to all breeds. It serves as an opportunity for experienced dog mushers to enjoy the trail and share their knowledge, and for new mushers to try out the races in a low-stress way. Most importantly it is a chance to “get working dogs off unemployment” and have a great time socializing with our dog-sports friends.

Racers under age 18 must wear a helmet and eye protection. Please clean up after your dogs. All sleds must have a snow hook sufficient to hold the team and a leash or snub-line. Dogs are required to be in harness. Any participant may be disqualified if their equipment or their treatment of the dogs is deemed unsafe or unacceptable by the Race Marshall.

Please be aware that these dogs are not all house pets. Ask the owner before you approach any dog, be respectful of the proper way to approach a dog. No loose dogs on site.
