12 February 2017 Larose Forest, P1 parking lot, Limoges, Ontario
UPDATE: Trail’s looking good!
Nick just re-groomed the trail and it looks pretty good. With the cold overnight it should be nicely firmed up by morning. Thanks Nick – your are a magician! Looking forward to running tomorrow!
UPDATE: Still a Go, but with modifications
With all the freezing rain the forest got on Tuesday, and the already icy base underneath, the trails were literally solid ice this morning. With much work, Nick and the crew were able to groom a 4 mile course for us, for which I am very grateful! He says it’s usable, but not great. This morning they were getting great big chunks of ice that they were breaking up with repeated passes with the tractor and gravel road drag, followed by the groomer (over and over again). Knowing Nick and the crew, I expect it is a minor miracle. There are a few centimetres of snow forecast overnight, so hopefully some fresh flakes to soften things up a bit. I will have a chance to test it tomorrow afternoon and give you more detail about the conditions, please do check back before leaving home.
So that said, we will run the race over the available 4 mile course x 2. It begins on 1st Trail, and ends at Moose trail (across the parking lot). The first time a team passes the finish line, they will be helped across the lot (as required) so that they can run a second time. Your time will be taken upon your second arrival at the finish line. Map was emailed to members, if you would like a copy, contact the organizer listed below.
Teams in the start chute may have delayed start times to accommodate teams coming through, who will have right of way. The start line will be closer to the lot than usual (only one team length), so that teams running through should not have to pass more than one waiting team. A second team can be held in the area between the picnic shelter walkway and the trailhead (so please don’t park there). As usual, we are fairly relaxed about arrival at the start chute, so don’t hook up your team before you can see that there is room. We’ll wait for you to get there without penalty.
Registration is at 10:30. Race meeting will start with the bib draw at 11:00. In fairness to everyone, since start position may make more difference than usual, anyone not registered before the bib draw may not race, though you would be welcome to enjoy the trails upon completion of the race.
I am getting tired of saying this this year, but, we are thinking it’s better to hold a less-than-ideal race than to cancel.
Thanks again very much to the forestry crew for making this possible! Dana
Sorry, I didn’t get 5 skijor teams, but members may feel free to come and run the course at 9:30 am, so long as they can be finished by 11 am. I’ll have weekend membership forms, and full membership forms there if you aren’t yet a member.
